Hannah Holl and Randy Nichols, Slippery Rock University professors of physical and health education, received a grant award of $100,000 from the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit and the Pennsylvania Department of Health through the Preventive Health and Health Service to provide professional development for certified teachers across Pennsylvania.

Holl and Nichols received this award last year and served as content specialists for four regional training workshops across the state that were attended by hundreds of teachers interested in implementing physical activity programs at their schools. The trainings are based on the Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program, which is a multi-component approach by which school districts and schools use all opportunities for students to be physically active, meet the nationally recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day, and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime.
