June 22, 2018
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been recognized as having one of the country's best online master's degree in reading by TheBestSchools.org.
TheBestSchools.org ranked every accredited online master's degree program in reading across the country before compiling a list of the top 30 in the nation. SRU finished at No. 23. Rankings were based on six categories, including:
-Academic excellence based on a school's curriculum generally or within the selected discipline (20 percent).
-Strength of faculty scholarship (20 percent).
-Reputation (15 percent).
-Financial aid (5 percent).
-Range of degree programs (15 percent).
-Strength of online instruction methodology (25 percent).
"The value of any ranking list of schools and degree programs depends on having a sound subjective assessment of each school's and program's characteristics," said Clifford Kvidahl, marketing and communications outreach, TheBestSchools.org. "A college or university is a complex entity, with numerous factors to consider, so to rank these schools accordingly, we distilled these factors down to the place where meaningful comparisons can be made."
Through SRU's Master of Education in Elementary Education K-12 Reading program, teachers can add the K-12 reading specialist certification and an endorsement in instructional coaching/literacy emphasis to their current teaching certificate while earning a master's of education in reading degree.
The program is ideal for certified teachers who want to enhance their knowledge and expertise in teaching literacy; expand employment opportunities to include reading specialist, literacy coach and K-12 reading; and meet requirements for Level II Certification, Act 48 or a Master of Education degree.
