Emerging Leadership Experience

The Emerging Leadership Experience, commonly referred to as ELE, engages students in interactive leadership activities on campus and in their weekly cohorts. Students in ELE will meet with 15-20 other first-year students in weekly cohort meetings facilitated by ELE Peer Mentors. The cohort meets for 1 hour per week and serves as a great way to meet and connect with other first year students while building valuable leadership skills.  All students in ELE will also be assigned a Peer Mentor (the peer mentors are students that have previously graduated from the ELE program) that will help them navigate questions they have about campus to ensure a successful transition to life at SRU.

ELE is offered during the fall and spring semesters and focuses on leadership experiences to help students become comfortable on campus, meet new friends, and begin to explore their individual leadership skills. Topics include: communication, values and ethics, group dynamics, critical thinking, conflict resolution, diversity and responding to change and ambiguity.

Students who succesfully fulfill all program requirements and graduate from ELE are eligible to apply for the ELE Green and White Scholarship that will help with a portion of their tuition costs for the next 3 undergraduate years on campus.

ELE graduates can also apply for the position of ELE Peer Mentor (a paid on-campus job!) and work directly with the program to facilitate cohorts with incoming first year and first semester transfer students.
