Update 3.5: Power Restoration Progress

Electricians have identified two failed underground medium voltage connections near Old Main and Miller Auditorium that are responsible for the power outage to eight buildings on the upper campus of Slippery Rock University. No additional issues have been identified at this time.
Repairs are currently underway. It is estimated that power will be restored today, pending the successful replacement of equipment and comprehensive testing to ensure the safety and integrity of the electrical service.
Our primary focus for service restoration today is North Hall to allow residents to return to a warm and safe environment as soon as possible. Additional buildings will be brought online as part of the comprehensive testing of the system.

Update 3.1: Power Outage

Electrical contractors continue checking building transformers and the main electrical switchgear regarding the high- and medium-voltage feeder cabling and connections. A second electrical team is enroute to expedite assessment and repairs.
Power outages in Slippery Rock Borough may have impacted equipment on campus. We are working closely with electrical contractors, First Energy, and the borough to repair a damaged circuit on upper campus that is currently impacting the delivery of electricity to eight buildings.
We understand how disruptive this power outage is and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work towards our mutual goal of restoring power as quickly and safely as possible.
Update 3: Power Outage

The power outage across the upper campus of Slippery Rock University continues with facilities members and electrical contractors actively investigating the source of the outage to determine a power restoration estimate.
All other buildings not impacted by the power outage are open for business as usual. As the work continues, buildings across campus may intermittently experience brief power outages as part of the investigation and testing of electrical lines and circuits. To be clear, power may briefly return to buildings impacted by the outage, and buildings not impacted by the power outage may experience brief outages. Backup systems are in place and continue to operate.
Scheduled activities and events will continue as planned. Check with the specific activity organizer for additional information or schedules. The SGA Happy Bus will maintain its normal operational schedule.
North Hall residents should continue to follow the direction of Residence Life staff. Contingency plans are being developed in case the power outage continues into the evening. These plans will be communicated directly to North Hall residents by 3:00pm. Throughout the day, students are encouraged to visit the Library, Campus Success Center, and Smith Student Center for access to electricity and/or Wi-Fi for personal use or online instruction.
Power outages continue to impact Slippery Rock borough and township. If you know of a student, employee or community member impacted by power outages, please contact them directly and encourage them to visit the Smith Student Center.

Update 2: Important Power Outage Planning

Power restoration attempts on the upper campus of Slippery Rock University were unsuccessful. Electricians continue troubleshooting the source of the outage to provide restoration of service as soon as possible.
Please note the below plans in place for Thursday January 23, 2025:
Students in North Hall will relocate for the evening. Students are encouraged to make arrangements for accommodations with friends and family as much as possible and to follow the direction of all Residence Life staff. During daytime operating hours, students are encouraged to visit the Library, Campus Success Center, and Smith Student Center for access to electricity and/or Wi-Fi for personal use or online instruction.
Classes held in the following buildings impacted by the power outage are moving to online instruction. Students are encouraged to check their email and D2L for more information and to follow their instructors' directions.

Employees in the following buildings impacted by the power outage are expected to work remotely unless notified by their supervisors. Supervisors' directions supersede the remote work option.

Facilities has located a blown fuse believed to be the source of the localized power outage to the upper campus of Slippery Rock University.
