Elana (Barkowitz) Glick, MPH, MCHES, CPH, NBC-HWC – SRU class of 2009
After graduating with her B.S. degree from Slippery Rock University, Elana (Barkowitz) Glick continued her studies to complete her MPH in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. After the completion of her studies and throughout her career, she earned certifications through NCHEC (Master Certified Health Education Specialist - MCHES), NBPHE (Certified in Public Health - CPH), and NBHWC (National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach - NBC-HWC).
Elana has been employed at UPMC Health Plan since 2011, and is the manager of the telephonic lifestyle health coaching team, of which she's been a part since starting her career at the Health Plan as a health coach. Elana previously moonlighted as a paraprofessional counselor at Planned Parenthood of Western PA.

Gretchen Piatt, MPH, PhD – SRU Class of 2001
Dr. Gretchen Piatt is a tenured Associate Professor in the Departments of Learning Health Sciences and Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of Michigan Schools of Medicine and Public Health. She also serves as the Department of Learning Health Science’s Associate Chair for Education, Director of the Health Infrastructures and Learning Systems MS and PhD program, and Director of the Precision Health Certificate. Dr. Piatt teaches courses in research methods and implementation science.
After graduating from Slippery Rock University with her B.S. degree, Dr. Piatt completed an MPH and PhD, both in Chronic Disease Epidemiology, from the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Piatt has specific training and expertise in implementing, designing and evaluating community interventions aimed at improving health care delivery in ethnic minority and underserved populations with chronic illnesses. She leads research teams that design and evaluate interventions in the primary and secondary prevention of diabetes and its complications, including understanding the behavioral and psychosocial aspects of diabetes self-management and support in the community and primary care settings. Dr. Piatt has built a national and international reputation in this area over the past fifteen years.
Nicole L. Stout, DPT, CLT-LANA, FAPTA – SRU class of 1994
After graduating from SRU, Nicole Stout continued on to complete a Master of Physical Therapy degree from Chatham University, followed by a Post-Graduate Certificate in Health Policy from the George Washington University School of Public Health and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the
Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. Here are a few highlights from her
successful career journey.
Dr. Stout is currently a research assistant professor at the West Virginia University Cancer Institute. She began her career as a clinical physical therapist at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital being a Lymphedema and Oncology program team leader. From there she went on to become a Health Science Researcher and physical therapist at the Breast Care Center of the National Naval Medical Center. Her next professional position included being a research consultant for Kaiser Permanente, after which she ran her own practice as a research consultant.
Dr. Stout has presented over 300 professional lectures world-wide, authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters, and is the co-author of the book 100 Questions and Answers about Lymphedema. She is currently in collaborative leadership roles with the World Health Organization and the American College of Sports Medicine for oncology exercise and rehabilitation guideline development and dissemination.
