Slippery Rock University offers options for students interested in taking courses at other institutions to transfer back to SRU. Students must receive approval from the appropriate individuals prior to taking classes elsewhere. Upon completion of the coursework, students are responsible for requesting an official transcript sent directly from the other institution to the Office of Academic Records and Registration at SRU. The necessary forms and procedures for each type of transfer coursework is below.
Transient Students
As a transient student, you can take courses at another domestic college, university, or community college to transfer back to SRU. Credit for transient coursework will transfer back to SRU if you earn a grade of D- or better. The transfer grade will appear on your academic record, but it is not calculated into your SRU GPA.
You must complete a Transient Clearance Form, provide the appropriate course equivalency, and obtain the necessary signatures prior to enrolling in classes elsewhere. Use the Transfer Equivalencies Tool to search for courses offered by other institutions to find the SRU equivalents.
Study Abroad
If you plan on taking advantage of the opportunities SRU provides through our study abroad programs, you must contact the Office of Global Engagement. They can assist with selecting a destination for your individual interests and assist with everything from finding a program that coordinates with your major to providing resources for financial aid, passports, and much more.
Please allow ample time for this process and refer to the Office for Global Engagement for additional information on the application process.
Visiting Student Status
As a visiting student, you can take courses at other Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities and transfer the courses, credits, and grades back to SRU. Credits and grades earned as a visiting student will affect your SRU GPA.
You must receive approval from both your home institution (SRU) and the other PASSHE university using the Visiting Student Application prior to taking classes.
