Stephen Larson, a Slippery Rock University associate professor of health care administration and information systems, recently co-authored a paper that was published in the Journal of Digital Forensics, Security and Law, a peer-reviewed publication of the Association of Digital Forensics, Security and Law.
Larson’s paper, titled “A Forensic First Look at a POS Device: Searching For PCI DSS Data Storage Violations,” examined a standalone point-of-sale system, which is used in small retail stores and restaurants, to attempt to extract unencrypted data and identify possible violations of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard requirement to protect stored credit card holder data.
