Ursula Payne, a Slippery Rock University professor of dance and interim associate provost of academic finance, planning and strategic initiatives, was the movement director of a recently released dance film, “Obi Mbu (The Primordial House): An Igbo Creation Myth,” directed by Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd.

The 30-minute film, rooted in African cosmologies, has been screened at theaters across the country since its 2021 release, including this month at the Stanford University Silicon Valley Archives in Palo Alto, California; the North Carolina Museum of Art, in Raleigh, North Carolina; and The Esalen Institute, in Big Sur, California. In November, it will be screened at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
