Schiappa elected president of Pittsburgh Geological Society

Tamra Schiappa, a Slippery Rock University professor of geography, geology and environment, was recently elected president of the Pittsburgh Geological Society. Schiappa was appointed to a one-year term by a vote of the PGS's board of directors.
The PGS is a nonprofit society of professional and student geologists, teachers of geology and earth sciences and people interested in the earth sciences. The organization, which has more than 300 professional members with interests that span more than 30 different earth science specialties, supports geologic thought by providing a forum for professionals and students to discuss and solve geologic problems in the Pittsburgh area and around the world.
