Five Slippery Rock University students and faculty will present at the Fall National College Media Convention, hosted by the Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Association, Oct. 31 to Nov. 3, in Washington, D.C.

Brittany Fleming and Emily Dolan, assistant professors of communication, will present "Creating an Inclusive Newsroom," a workshop to help students avoid harassment, discrimination and incivility in their student-run media newsrooms and internships.

Fleming; Mark Zeltner, associate professor of communication; Hannah Shumsky, a secondary education-English major from Conway; and Karl Ludwig, a junior sport management major from Wexford, will present "Five Tips for Surviving a Social Media Crisis." The presentation will help attendees draft protocols and tips for dealing with social media backlash from published news content.

Other SRU students attending the conference will be Hope Hoehler, a junior communication major from Allison Park; Nina Cipriani, a freshman communication major from Altoona; Aaron Marrie, a junior communication major from Sharpsville; and Brendan Howe, a junior communication major from East Butler.

The ACP/CMA conference, which includes more than 275 presentation sessions, is for college students and their student-run media advisers.
