SRU faculty and students contribute to PCA convention
Oct. 3, 2023
Slippery Rock University hosted the Pennsylvania Communication Association Annual Convention, Sept. 29-30, at the Smith Student Center, and several SRU faculty and students presented at the meeting, served as panelists or were recognized. The PCA is a statewide professional organization that promotes teaching, research, service and development of all areas of human communication.
Ashley Farrell, a senior strategic communication media major from Springdale, and Jadyn Furge, a senior strategic communication and media major from Gibsonia, were awarded the Voices of Tomorrow College Communicator of the Year award by the Pennsylvania Communication Association. The award recognizes students who excel in curricular and extracurricular communication work, who use communication skills in a service capacity, and who demonstrate promise of future leadership through communication.
Farrell and Furge were nominated because of their leadership as co-presidents of the College Dress Relief. Their social media content promoted CDR’s values of inclusivity, self-expression and fashion sustainability and reflected PCA’s 2023 theme “Sustaining Communities.”
