SRU Theatre receives numerous commendations for ‘Grecian Burns’ production

The Slippery Rock University Theatre Department’s production of “Grecian Burns” recently received multiple commendations at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival National Awards Conference, Aug. 21, at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The play, performed at SRU in October 2023, was directed by Aaron Galligan-Stierle, assistant professor of theatre.

Initially selected to participate in the Regional Kennedy Center Conference, Jan. 27, 2024, at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh, SRU’s production of “Grecian Burns” and participants became eligible for the following KCACTF national commendations after a rigorous selection process:

  • SRU received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Institutional Support for the Development of a New Musical.
  • Galligan-Stierle received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Direction and a commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Intimacy Direction.
  • Cassie Dietrich, a 2024 SRU graduate with a degree in dance, received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Performance.
  • Gwen Lillycrop, a 2024 SRU graduate with a degree in musical theatre, received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Performance.
  • Abby Malczon, a 2024 SRU graduate with a degree in musical theatre, received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Performance.
  • Aidan Nahas, a junior musical theatre major from Huntingtown, Maryland, received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Performance.
  • Belle Trask, a sophomore musical theatre major from Murphy, Texas, received a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Performance.
  • SRU’s theatre company received a Commendation for Outstanding Achievement in the Facilitation of a Brave Rehearsal Space, a Commendation for Distinguished Achievement in Performance Ensemble and Commendations for Production of a New Work and Performance of Theatrical Intimacy.

Through the regional and national festivals, the KCACTF celebrates the achievements of theater programs, individual students and faculty of colleges and universities throughout the United States.
