The Rocket collects multiple student journalism awards

The Rocket, the independent, student-run newspaper at Slippery Rock University, won several awards in the 2019 Society for Collegiate Journalists National Contest.
The Rocket placed third for "Newspaper Overall Excellence," while four students won first place for page design and quality of content, including Megan Bush, a senior communication major from Stroudsburg, in the Feature Page category; Steve Cukovich, a senior communication major from Renfrew, in the Sports Page category; Eric Davies, a senior communication major from Harveys Lake, in the Editorial Page category; and Adam Zook, a junior communication major from Tyrone, in the News Page category.
Second-place winners were: Jack Hopey, a senior communication major from Pittsburgh, and Paris Malone, a senior computing major from Alexandria, Virginia, in the Photo Essay category; Zook in the Editorial category; and Lauren Ault, a senior communication major from Butler, in the Front Page category.
Third-place winners were Bush for Feature Page; Zook for Breaking News; Davis and Bush for Editorial Page; and Davies and Cukovich for Sports Page.
SCJ is the nation's oldest organization serving college media leaders with more than 100 active chapters and 1,200 members.
