The English-style and Western-style equestrian club teams at Slippery Rock University recently qualified individual riders for national championships after successful showings in each team's most recent competition.
Jess Dietrich, a junior recreational therapy major from Eastlake, Ohio, qualified for the English-style Intercollegiate Horse Show Association finals, May 3-6, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, by winning the Advance Walk Trot Canter competition at the IHSA Zone 2 finals in Leonia, New Jersey. The English-style club team placed third out of 14 teams in Region 5 and qualified four riders for the Zone 2 championships.
Aubrey Braham, a junior mathematics major from Grove City, who previously qualified for nationals as the Zone 2, Region 5 high point rider, also became the Western-style Reserve Champion in Open Reining at the IHSA Western Semifinals last month, where the Western-style club team placed sixth out of 27 squads for the highest finish in its history.
