Allen, Planitzer, Zelesnik place third at audit competition

A team of three Slippery Rock University students placed third at The Institute of Internal Auditors, Pittsburgh Chapter, University Competition, an event where college students from the region submitted audit reports to be judged by a panel of judges. The team, which won $500, consisted of Aubrey Allen, a senior accounting major from Athens; Hayley Planitzer, a senior modern languages and cultures major from Venetia; and Rachel Zelesnik, a junior accounting major from Oakdale, all of whom are students in an Audit class taught by Theresa Phipps, associate professor of accounting, economics and finance. Their report, titled “Three Lines of Defense,” described the defense roles and responsibilities of management, monitoring and internal audit. The IIA is a professional association for people who work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education and security.
