SRU students present mathematics research at PME conference

Three Slippery Rock University students recently presented papers at the Pi Mu Epsilon Regional Conference at Youngstown State University in Ohio.
Colleen Dougherty, a senior mathematics major from Pittsburgh, presented her paper, "Ancient Egyptian Multiplication," based on her independent study course about the history of mathematics. Kaila DeChristofaro, a senior mathematics major from Girard, Ohio, and Jessica Lefler, a senior mathematics major from Allison Park, presented "Mathematics of Partial Least Squares Regression," which is about a method they used in an ongoing research project under the directed by Dil Singhabahu, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics.
A total of nine students and five faculty from SRU attended the conference, organized by the Ohio Xi Chapter of PME, which is a national honorary mathematics society founded in 1914 that has 337 chapters at institutions across the United States.
