The Rocket receives CSPA Silver Crown Award

The Rocket, the independent, student-run newspaper at Slippery Rock University, won a Silver Crown Award in Hybrid News category of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s 2021 Crown Awards. The CSPA Crown Awards honor top student publications for overall excellence that are chosen from CSPA’s members. Publications are judged by a CSPA-invited panel on their overall excellence as shown by their design, photography, concept, coverage and writing. A total of 852 publications were eligible for judging. The Rocket was eligible for the Crown Awards after receiving a Gold Medal in the 2019-20 CSPA Medalist Critique, which compares each publication against a printed set of standards by a single-adviser judge. The CSPA is an international student press association that unites student journalists and faculty advisers through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs.
