March 5, 2021
Three Slippery Rock University faculty members co-authored a research article that was published in Police Quarterly, the only peer-reviewed, scholarly journal in North America that publishes empirical studies on issues related to policing. Kerry Edwards, assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice; Sarah Kuehn, associate professor of criminology and criminal justice; and Yvonne Eaton-Stull, associate professor of public health and social work, wrote the article, “Police Officer Stress and Coping in a Stress-awareness Era.” The co-authors studied police officers’ stress levels, coping mechanisms and perspectives regarding police-community relations, their perceived stress-related needs and their perceptions of departmental assistance.
