Two Slippery Rock University research projects each received $15,000 grants from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, a bipartisan legislative agency that serves as a resource for rural policy within the Pennsylvania state legislature.
Sunita Mondal, associate professor of accounting, economics and finance, and Roger Solano, professor of management and marketing, will use Census of Agriculture data to analyze Pennsylvania farmers' characteristics based on demographics, farm ownership and farming practices to identify changes in types of farming operations, farm profitability and labor employment.
In a separate study, Liang Xu, associate professor of management and marketing, will identify trends and challenges associated with public school transportation in rural and urban Pennsylvania.
