SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University's Office for Inclusive Excellence will host its biannual Multicultural Graduation Ceremony 5 p.m., Dec. 10, via Zoom. The event, which is open to the public, will recognize the accomplishments of 21 graduating SRU seniors who self-identified as multicultural, regardless of involvement with the OIE. The event also celebrates the variety of cultures at the University.

"We have fun, so it's definitely more of a celebration as opposed to a ceremony," said Corinne Gibson, SRU director of inclusive excellence. "This gives these students an opportunity to be spotlighted and recognized for their achievements even though we're not together in person."

Each of the 21 students will be introduced and there will be a video presentation, a poetry reading and music, including a singing performance by Odell Richardson, a 2018 SRU graduate with a degree in interdisciplinary programs. SRU President William Behre will also provide congratulatory remarks.

Typically at the event, students receive stoles that represent their unique culture and heritage, including specific stoles for the African American, Latino, multiracial and LGBTQIA communities. This year's class will receive their stoles through the mail.
