SRU trustees recognize student-athlete achievements at quarterly business meeting

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Slippery Rock University council of trustees recognized several SRU student-athletes with commendations, among other executive actions, at its quarterly business meeting, Dec. 6, at the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.
The trustees recognized the following student-athletes:
- Jennifer Cichra, a junior mechanical engineering major from Renfrew, for winning the NCAA Elite 90 Award. Cichra, a member of the SRU women's cross country team, received the award for having the highest cumulative grade-point average among student-athletes participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 National Championships.
- Anna Igims, a senior special education major from McKnight, for her NCAA All-America honors. Igims, became the first member of the SRU women's cross country team to achieve All-America status since 2010 with her 29th place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
- Brayden Long, a senior health and physical education major from Hanover, for being a national finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. A quarterback on the SRU football team, Long is one of 16 scholar-athletes from all levels of college football considered for this award that recognizes the best in the nation for combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
- All members of the SRU women's cross country team for winning the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship. This was the team's second straight PSAC title and the fourth in program history.
Other executive actions at the meeting included the approval of a resolution for the affiliated entities certification of compliance, as well as the appointment of Joshua Young to serve as a representative from the trustees to the Slippery Rock Student Government Association's executive board. Young will serve in the role of a non-voting member of the SRSGA Advisory Board of Directors for a three-year term, with a maximum of two consecutive terms of office.
The council heard the President's Report, received reports from its standing committees, and reviewed finance and divisional reports. Julia Williamson, from the SRU-SGA Child Care Center, and Amy Orville, assistant professor of curriculum, instruction and educational leadership, also presented to the trustees about the partnership between the College of Education and the SRU-SGA Child Care Center.
The SRU trustees' next quarterly meetings are March 20-21, 2025.
