SRU conferring 540 degrees at 2024 fall commencement ceremony, Dec. 14
Slippery Rock University will confer more than 500 degrees at its 2024 fall commencement ceremony, Dec. 14, at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University will host its 2024 fall commencement ceremony, 11 a.m., Dec. 14, at the Morrow Field House. There are a total of 540 students eligible to graduate and participate in the ceremony. Graduate students and undergraduates from each of SRU's five colleges will receive their degrees in one ceremony.
Electronic tickets are required for entry and each graduate will be provided up to four guest tickets. All ceremonies will be livestreamed on sru.edu for those friends and family members without a ticket, unable to attend in person, or who prefer to watch the ceremony online.
Additionally, there will be a livestream viewing location on campus for guests without tickets at the Russell Wright Alumni House.
The commencement speaker will be Dan Bauer, dean of the SRU College of Liberal Arts. Larry McCarthy, assistant professor of accounting, economics and finance, will serve as grand marshal and will open the ceremony. SRU President Karen Riley will provide remarks and confer the degrees. There will also be greetings from Jeffrey Smith on behalf of the SRU council of trustees.
Michael Zieg, provost and vice president for academic affairs, will present candidates for degrees, as well as Bauer; Keith Dils, dean, College of Education; Nicole Dafoe, dean, College of Engineering and Science; Christina Karshin, dean, College of Health Professions; and Lawrence Shao, dean, College of Business, for their respective colleges.
Melissa Visco, '04, board member of the SRU Alumni Association, will welcome the graduates as new SRU alumni on behalf of the association.
Student marshals and University flag bearers include the following graduating students who will hold their respective college flag or the SRU flag for the ceremony:
- Emma Hicks, a music performance major from Homestead (University Flag Bearer).
- Logan Vokes, a safety management major from Cranberry Township (College of Business).
- Megan Bliss, an early childhood education major from Pittsburgh (College of Education).
- Emma North, a dual criminology-criminal justice and park and resource management major from Irwin (College of Engineering and Science).
- Jacob Jedry, an exercise science major from Mars (College of Health Professions).
- Grace Venatta, a dual dance and history major from Cabot (College of Liberal Arts).
- Alexander Hetzel, a graduate student in the lifelong wellness through innovative leadership program from Slippery Rock (Graduate Studies).
