SRU trustees to hold next meetings, Dec. 7-8
Slippery Rock University's council of trustees will meet Dec. 7-8 in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University's council of trustees will meet Dec. 7-8 at the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center. Committee meetings are scheduled for both days. The quarterly business meeting is at 10 a.m., Dec. 8. For those who wish to attend the meetings but are unable to do so in person, a Zoom option is available with advanced registration. All meetings are open to the public.
Scheduled committee meetings include:
- Academic and Student Affairs, 2-3 p.m., Dec. 7.
- Finance and Administrative Affairs, 3:15-3:45 p.m., Dec. 7.
- University Advancement, 8:30-9 a.m., Dec. 8.
- Governance, 9-9:45 a.m., Dec. 8.
The agenda for the Academic and Student Affairs Committee includes:
- A presentation by Michael Zieg, provost and vice president for academic affairs.
- An academic programs update provided by Zieg and Carrie Birckbichler, vice president for finance and administration.
- A presentation by Anthony Jones, chief diversity officer.
- A presentation by Amanda Yale, chief enrollment management officer.
- A presentation by David Wilmes, chief student affairs officer.
The agenda for the Finance and Administrative Affairs Committee includes:
- The annual security report provided by Kevin Sharkey, director and chief of University Police.
- A financial update by Birckbichler.
- An employee retention and satisfaction update by Holly McCoy, chief human resources officer.
- An update about the campus projects by Scott Albert, associate vice president for facilities, environmental safety and sustainability.
- Administrative updates on audit communications, financial sustainability guidance, contracts, financial reports, facilities and planning projects, human resources personnel items and a divisional report.
The agenda for the University Advancement Committee includes presentations from the following administrators:
- Samantha Swift, interim vice president of university advancement.
- Kelly Bailey, director of alumni engagement.
- Dave Hollenbaugh, executive director of the SRU Foundation, Inc.
The agenda for the Governance Committee includes:
- An update on the Pennsylvania Association of Councils of Trustees from Jeff Smith, SRU trustee.
- A discussion about board meeting structure.
- Informational items including a media report, calendar mentions and council of trustees bylaws.
During the quarterly business meeting, John Silvestro, associate professor of languages, literatures, cultures, and writing, will give a presentation about how professors are using artificial intelligence text generators to achieve teaching outcomes.
The trustees will also receive the President's Report, reports from its standing committees and other informational updates.
There will also be commendations given to the SRU women's cross country team for winning its conference championship and to Ethan Bentham, a graduate student majoring in environmental education from Brookville, for earning the NCAA Elite 90 Award as a member of the SRU men's cross-country team.
Scheduled action items include:
- A vote on the resolution for affiliated entities' certification of compliance.
- A vote to approve SRU council of trustee meeting norms.
- A vote on the naming resolution for the Carolyn Carruth Rizza Memorial Garden.
