SRU’s Cyberspace Event will feature speakers from West Point and IBM

Slippery Rock University’s Center for Cybersecurity and Advanced Computing will host its third Cyberspace Event, 12:30-5 p.m., Dec. 3, at the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University's Center for Cybersecurity and Advanced Computing will host its third Cyberspace Event, 12:30-5 p.m., Dec. 3, at the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

The campuswide, collaborative event will feature students from multiple departments presenting case scenarios, software demonstrations and applications related to cybersecurity.

Two invited speakers will be featured at the event. Capt. Daniel Hawthorne, assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science and Cyber Research Center Manager at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, will conduct a presentation titled "Where We are Going (and Where We Have Been) - Cryptography, Security, Technology," from 12:40-1:20 p.m. Alessandro Morari, manager and research staff member, Cloud Security Analytics, Hybrid Cloud Platform, at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center, will present "AI Enhanced Cloud Security," 2:10-2:50 p.m.

There will be two rounds of "Lightning Talks," 1:20-2 p.m. and 3-4:20 p.m., with presentations by students on topics ranging from augmented reality to Wi-Fi password protection and a variety of cybersecurity-related areas of research.

The event will conclude with demonstrations and discussions from the presenters from 4:20-5 p.m.
