SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Slippery Rock University Dance Department will present its Fresh Moves Dance Showcase, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 1, and 2 p.m., Dec. 2, in the Stoner West Dance Studio Theater. The showcase will feature 12 choreographed performances by current SRU dance students. Cost is $10 for general admission and tickets can be purchased online.
"I love Fresh Moves because the name says it all: these are fresh ideas and they're new each and every year," said Lindsay Viatori, associate professor of dance. "Our students are truly special in that they are eager to add an additional four hours of rehearsal to their already busy schedules in order to participate in one dance piece."
According to Viatori, there's a rigorous process for students to have pieces selected for the showcase, produced by SRU Dance Theatre, one of SRU's resident dance companies.
"SRUDT's goal is to give students the opportunity to make choreography for their peers," Viatori said. "Each student submits a letter of intent on the first day of class each fall semester. These works are then adjudicated by a faculty panel who determine which works will move forward into a fully produced concert."
