INDIANAPOLIS - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team was awarded the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region for the upcoming NCAA Division ll playoffs during a live selection show announcement from the national committee Monday evening.

As the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region, SRU has earned the right to host the first two rounds of the tournament. The Rock will have a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the No. 3-6 matchup between Concord University and West Chester University that will take place 1 p.m. Thursday at James Egli Field.

The Rock's second round match will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. at James Egli Field, pending weather and field conditions. If rain or snow in the area makes the field unplayable, that game will be moved to Grove City College's new turf soccer facility 10 miles away from SRU. The turf field at SRU's Mihalik-Thompson Stadium is five yards too narrow to host an official NCAA playoff game.

The rest of the playoff field in the Atlantic Region includes No. 1 Bloomsburg, No. 3 Concord, No. 4 Millersville, No. 5 East Stroudsburg and No. 6 West Chester.

The Atlantic Region includes all schools in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and the Mountain East Conference. The PSAC had five teams in the NCAA field while the MEC had one in Concord.

Slippery Rock earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division ll playoffs after clinching its fourth PSAC Championship in program history, tied for the second-most in the league with West Chester and Bloomsburg.

The NCAA berth marks the ninth in program history for The Rock and the first for SRU since the 2013 season. Slippery Rock has a 9-8-2 all-time record in NCAA Tournament games, including a 3-2 record over its last five tournament games.

Slippery Rock set a new program record with 18 wins this season after scoring 56 goals, the second-most in program history.
