Oct. 24, 2018
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been ranked as one 2019's top master's degree granting universities in the country by Washington Monthly.
Washington Monthly is an online journal "that prides itself in honesty and along with covering political topics, has a desire to provide leads on top educational systems in an array of categories."
"The higher education market is dominated by rankings that reward wealth, fame and exclusivity," said Washington Monthly staffers. "We thought the nation needed exactly the opposite: smart, well-run colleges that enrolled students from all walks of life and helped them earn a high-quality diploma at an affordable price. Colleges that instilled a sense of service and public obligation while producing groundbreaking research."
Universities were ranked on three broad categories:
● Social mobility (the recruitment of low-income students and them graduating).
● Research (conducting cutting-edge scholarship).
● Service (students being encouraged to give back to their communities).
SRU was ranked 239th out of 695 institutions.
