SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education has ranked Slippery Rock University seventh among 328 institutions in the area of "Wellness & Work" in its Sustainable Campus Index. The "Wellness & Work" section recognizes student and employee wellness programs and employee compensation, satisfaction, health and safety.

SRU's 86.4 percent score was well above the averages for institutions in the United States (47.6) and SRU's institution type (48.2) and size (48.0).

"Healthy, happy students and employees perform better and that contributes to the success and the sustainability of our University," said Lynne Motyl, SRU associate vice president for human resources and diversity. "We recognize the importance of student and employee wellness and it's nice to receive validation from ASHE and to see SRU ranked among the top performers."

AASHE's SCI recognizes top-performing colleges and universities in 17 sustainability impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, or STARS, which is a transparent, self-reporting framework developed by AASHE for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. More than 900 STARS reports were submitted by 477 institutions in 11 countries in 2018.

SRU offers several wellness programs and resources for students through the Student Health Services, Student Counseling Center and the Aebersold Recreation Center, and employee programs like Healthy U and Get Healthy.
