SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University has been honored by Colleges of Distinction for how well SRU prepares students for their next step after graduation. Colleges of Distinction, an online guide for college-bound students that honors colleges and universities throughout the U.S. for their excellence, recognized SRU with a 2022-23 Career Development badge. This badge isawarded to schools for their outstanding ability to prepare their students for their careers through integrated career exploration and preparation, accessible programs and career-centered staff.
"SRU provides unparalleled support and resources throughout every stage of career exploration, development and application," said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction. "The Career Development recognition goes beyond mock interviews and job board postings. SRU brings career readiness into the classroom, making intentional connections between students of all majors and the careers they pursue after graduation. It's the kind of innovative, ingrained career preparation strategies that make SRU's outstanding Center for Career and Academic Progress worthy of praise."
SRU's CCAP includes the First National Bank Office of Career Education and Development, the Office of Distinguished Scholarships and Fellowships, the Success Coaching program and the Department of Exploratory Studies and Academic Progress. Through the Office of Career Education and Development, students and alumni take part in person-to-person appointments, career management tools, speaking events, networking events, on-campus employer interviews and career expos and job fairs.
"These offices and programs provide tailored services to help students set goals and build relationships," said John Rindy, assistant vice president for career and academic progress. "The recognition from Colleges of Distinction is confirmation that our holistic and innovative approach to engaging students with their career management plans is working. SRU's commitment to students' career development and overall success is not limited to one office or area; it's part of our institutional mission that is carried out by faculty, staff and students."
Earlier this summer, SRU was recognized by the COD for being named a 2022-23 national, public and Pennsylvania College of Distinction. SRU also received a national endorsement for business, education and nursing.
