SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Learning doesn't stop during the summer. Slippery Rock University's Macoskey Center for Sustainability Education and Research, along with the Storm Harbor Equestrian Center, are returning this summer to host a series of summer day camps for children. The series, which explores different elements of nature-based learning and exploration, consists of four themed weekday sessions, 8:30 a.m. to noon, for children ages 4-5 and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for children ages 6-11, June 10-12, June 24-26, July 15-17 and July 29-31 at the Macoskey Center at 247 Harmony Road.

"Our campers can expect to spend a mixture of time indoors and outdoors learning about the natural world," said Samantha Bortz, manager of the Macoskey Center. "They can expect to play games, complete crafts, go for hikes, meet and feed our center's chickens, experience many hands-on activities, eat healthy snacks, learn about the natural world, and form a sense of community and friendship with other campers."

Bortz, who has a background as a teacher and environmental educator, has been helping host the summer camps since 2022.

"Organizing summer camps has been simultaneously a lot of work, but also very rewarding and fun," said Samantha Bortz, manager of the Macoskey Center. "Planning and implementing environmental education programming like this is something that I am very passionate about."
