SRU hires Michael May as vice president for enrollment management

Michael May, a director in SRU’s Admissions Office since 2012, has been hired as the vice president for enrollment management.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University has hired Michael May as vice president for enrollment management. May, who has served in the role as an interim since March 29, has worked as a director in SRU's Admission Office for the last 12 years. May was the successful candidate following a national search and he will begin his new role on July 1.

May will provide leadership and support for advancing the overall enrollment goals of the University and lead SRU's efforts to identify, recruit and admit the optimal number and quality of students. Reporting to the president, May will supervise the directors of the units within Enrollment Management, including First Year Recruitment and Admissions, Transfer Admissions and Orientation, Graduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Academic Records and Registration, and Career and Academic Progress.

"Michael has years of experience and knowledge about SRU and we are excited by what his leadership will bring to our area of Enrollment Management and the entire University," said SRU President Karen Riley. "We've had tremendous success and leadership under Amanda Yale, who retired after 38 years of service. Michael will help us continue that positive momentum and meet the challenges ahead as we seek to thrive as a first-choice organization."

May started at SRU in 2012 as director of undergraduate recruitment and admissions. He became director of first-year admissions in 2017, before assuming the role of interim upon Yale's retirement.

"I feel very blessed and excited to continue working with campus colleagues to ensure the SRU student experience remains excellent, accessible and affordable," May said. "I look forward to leading our talented team in Enrollment Management and further enhancing the first-choice student experience that SRU offers."

May has more than 25 years' experience as a college admissions director. Prior to his time at SRU, he was the director of graduate admissions at Chatham University (2008-11), associate director of admissions at West Chester University (2003-08) and assistant director of admissions at Yale University (1998-2001). May earned two degrees from Yale University, a bachelor's degree in history and an MBA. May has served as the admissions practices chair and finance and budget chair for the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling.

Born in Mexico City and raised in Portage, Michigan, May is a resident of Pittsburgh.
