SRU hosting more than 20 summer camps
Slippery Rock University will host more than 20 summer camps, including the SRU Voice Academy, June 24-28.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — With the summer semester in full swing, Slippery Rock University is gearing up to host several summer camps and conferences through August. With programs ranging from sports camps to sustainable cooking, hundreds will find a place for education on SRU's campus this summer season.
Among the more than 20 camps that SRU sponsors is a new offering for 2024: the Voice Academy, June 24-28, which is a transformative experience for high school and undergraduate college students who are passionate about harnessing their voice as a musical instrument. Students will engage in one-on-one lessons, collaborative choral performances and coaching sessions. With a choice between a classical or musical theater track, students will spend five full days on a journey of vocal discovery and growth.
The SRU summer camps and conferences include:
- SRU Co-Ed Volleyball Camp, June 7-10, at the Aebersold Student Recreation Center. In this three-day event, students will train at their level in volleyball while building on individual and team skill development.
- Macoskey Center Summer Camps Week 1: Nature Fairytales 2.0, June 10-12, at the Macoskey Center. Learn about the wonders of nature in this half-day enrichment class.
- SRU Forge Dance Intensive, June 16-29, across the SRU campus. An eleven-day dance intensive camp for students interested in learning about all things dance. This program currently has a waitlist.
- Rock Women's Basketball Girls Youth Clinic, June 17-19, at the Morrow Field House. A clinic offering up-and-coming girls basketball players the opportunity to focus on improving their skills while learning from SRU coaches and players.
- Poplar Music Pedagogy Session 2, June 17-21, at the Swope Music Building. A weeklong interactive workshop which serves as an introduction to modern band programs at all levels.
- SRU Drum Major Camp, June 23-28, across the SRU campus. A six-day intensive for students in grades 7-12 interested in building skills as current or future drum major.
- Macoskey Center Summer Camps Week 2: Farm to Fork-Let's Get Growing, June 24-26, at the Macoskey Center. Experience and taste the Macoskey Center's gardens and edible landscape while learning how to plan, prepare, and plant gardens.
- SRU Choral Conducting Workshop, June 24-28, at the Swope Music Building. This workshop delves into the contemporary research and application of culturally responsive teaching within choral arts.
- SRU Voice Academy, June 24-28, across the SRU campus. A transformative experience for high school and undergraduate students to refine their singing skills in classical and musical theater styles through expert coaching, masterclasses and performance.
- SRU Jazz Academy, June 24-28, across the SRU campus. A rich and entertaining jazz experience for a variety of ages and abilities.
- SRU Conversational Solfege Certification 1 & 2, June 24-28, at the Swope Music Building. A hybrid course on conversational solfege, students will grow their tuneful, beautiful and artful skills to develop a deeper understanding of melody and rhythm.
- Rock Men's Basketball Co-Ed Youth Skills Clinic #1, June 24-25, at the Morrow Field House. A clinic offering up-and-coming boys basketball players the opportunity to focus on improving their skills while learning from Slippery Rock coaches and players.
- Rock Football Relentless Prospect Camp #2, June 27, at the Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Students interested in showing off their football skills are welcome to attend this event, where SRU coaching staff will be present for one-on-one coaching, drills and agility tests.
- SRU Windstars 1 Workshop, June 29, in the Swope Music Building Recital Hall, Room 135. This one-day workshop offers students the opportunity to play instruments and learn how to structure pre-band lessons aligned with a "sound before sight" strategy.
- SRU Volleyball Girl's Skills Camp, July 7-10, at the Aebersold Recreation Center and Morrow Field House. Under the direction of Laurie Lokash, Slippery Rock University women's head volleyball coach, students will engage in a combination of individual and team skills. This program currently has a waitlist.
- Macoskey Center Summer Camps Week 3: Nature Explorers, July 15-17, at the Macoskey Center. Students will engage in hands-on activities, games and outdoor investigations to learn about the world around them.
- Field Hockey Day Camp, July 21, at the Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Students will engage in individual and team skill development while training at their own level.
- Macoskey Center Summer Camps Week 4: Farm to Fork-Let's Get Cooking, July 29-31, at the Macoskey Center. Experience and taste the Macoskey Center's gardens and edible landscape while learning how to plan, prepare, and plant gardens.
- Rock Men's Basketball Co-Ed Youth Skills Clinic #2, Aug. 1-2, at the Morrow Field House. A clinic offering up-and-coming boys basketball players the opportunity to focus on improving their skills while learning from SRU coaches and players.
- Rock Men's Basketball Elite Prospect Camp, Aug. 4, at the Morrow Field House. Students will engage in individual skill and technique development while being evaluated by the SRU collegiate men's basketball coaching staff.
- Rock Women's Basketball Elite Camp, Aug. 17, at the Morrow Field House. Students will engage in individual skill and technique development while being evaluated by the SRU collegiate men's basketball coaching staff.
