Slippery Rock University's "Celebration of Achievement," an award ceremony recognizing student involvement and achievement in academics, extracurricular activities and community engagement, happened April 18 in the Smith Student Center Ballroom. The event also recognized John Yannotty, a senior mathematics major from Butler who was SRU's nominee for the Ali-Zaidi Award that is presented by State System board of governors; Rebecca Thomas, an assistant professor of parks, conservation, and recreational therapy, with the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching; Joanne Leight, a professor of physical and health education, with the President's Award for Excellence in Advising; and Brett Barnett, a professor of communication, with the President's Award for Scholarly and Creative Work.
