Slippery Rock University hosted the Special Olympics Interscholastic Unified Sports indoor bocce regional championships, April 13 at Morrow Field House. Normally, the IUS regional tournament is conducted entirely at SRU but this year, because of COVID-19 mitigation, only the championship match, played this year between Seneca Valley and Shenango high schools, took place on campus with other playoff matches hosted at local high schools. The region consists of unified sports teams from high schools in Mercer, Butler and Lawrence counties. Unified sports feature traditional and special-needs athletes competing together on the same teams. SRU has played a key role in starting teams at local high schools with graduate students from the University's adapted physical activity program serving as coaches. Shenango defeated Seneca Valley to win the regional.
