Slippery Rock University bid a fond farewell this morning to an old friend when a pine tree between Old Main and North Hall - literally - fell victim to high winds. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, in effect until 8 p.m. this evening, for Butler and surrounding counties. Sustained winds of 20-25 miles per hour are possible, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Local power companies are reporting outages in the thousands due to downed electrical lines.
