SGA Bookstore to host March 29 ‘Graduation Celebration’

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The SGA Bookstore will host its annual "Graduation Celebration" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., March 29 in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

The event provides students that have applied to graduate at any of the May 11-12 undergraduate or graduate ceremonies, the opportunity to pick up their tickets and purchase regalia, class rings, diploma frames and other University memorabilia.

Applicants who applied by the March 1 deadline are guaranteed up to four guest tickets for commencement and may pick them up at the Celebration event. Tickets will also be distributed April 2-6 and 9-13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 302 Old Main. There will be a special Saturday distribution of tickets April 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Smith Student Center. A valid student ID is required to pick up tickets.

Students that missed the March 1 deadline to apply for graduation must apply in person at Academic Records located in Old Main, Suite 107. Students applying after the March 1 deadline are not guaranteed guest tickets, or that their name will appear in the commencement program.

The "Graduation Celebration" will give students several opportunities to make connections. The SRU Alumni Association will distribute zipper pulls to candidates and distribute medallions to summa cum laude graduates. Graduating seniors will be able to join the Alumni Association for a special rate of $25, receive a free gift and be entered into drawings for prizes throughout the event.

Staff from SRU's Office of Career Education and Development will be distributing information about the official first destination survey that graduates will receive that measures what they are doing after college, as well as the "Senior Career 411" program. That event, 5:30-7:30 p.m., May 2 in Vincent Science Center, Room 106, will cover resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, networking, interviewing skills and the best and worst ways to search for a job.
