SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — An annual contest at Slippery Rock University is never the same old song and dance because each year "Dancing with the SRU Stars" features new contestants and pairings from the campus community. This year's competition is 7 p.m., March 28, in Stoner West Dance Studio Theater. Cost is $10 for general admission.

The event is SRU's version of the popular television show "Dancing with the Stars," featuring students as the dancers, paired with SRU professors and staff members as the "stars." Instead of a Mirror Ball trophy, the student from the winning couple will be awarded a scholarship and their dance partner will earn the title of SRU Star Dancer.

"Dancing with the SRU Stars" is sponsored by The SRU Dance Department and the National Honor Society of Dance Arts SRU Chapter and all proceeds benefit the National Honor Society of Dance Arts Rising Sophomore Dance Scholarship. Funding for the scholarship was provided by donors Deb and Eliott Baker.

The evening's dance card will include:

  • Monique Alexander, associate professor of elementary education and early childhood, with Wolfgang Nicholson, a freshman dance major from Wampum.
  • Michelle Amodei, associate professor of elementary education and early childhood, with Mari Sprague, a junior dance major from Buffalo, New York.
  • Louis Christensen, assistant professor of physics and engineering, with Daniya Jackson, a freshman dance major Seven Valleys.
  • Corinne Gressang, assistant professor of history, with Julianna Record, a freshman dance major from Hubbard, Ohio.
  • Hannah Holl, professor of physical and health education, with Gianna Dobrich, a senior dance major from Erie.
