SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University is hosting a Wellness Expo, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 29, at the Aebersold Student Recreation Center. The event is organized by students in the exercise science course, Wellness Coaching and Program Management, and sponsored by the Office of Campus Recreation and the President's Commission on Wellness.
The expo will include more than 15 booths that will offer information and services from student exhibitors and student organizations, such as Boost Peer Coaching and Healthy Outreach through Peer Education. Attendees can access information related to health and wellness and receive screenings for blood pressure and body composition.
"The Wellness Expo is a good opportunity to promote health and wellness on our campus," said Joy Urda, associate professor of exercise and rehabilitative sciences, who teaches the Wellness Coaching and Program Management course and is a co-chair of the PCW. "It allows our students the chance to get hands-on experience with the community, provide health-related education and to promote positive behavior change."
SRU faculty and staff can register for a chance to win various retail gift cards by visiting booths at the expo, which was made possible through a grant to provide incentives for University employees to live a healthy lifestyle. Faculty and staff can log their attendance at the event for credit on their Healthy U survey, which is the wellness rewards program through the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Admission to the Wellness Expo is free.
