SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — While Slippery Rock University is planning for a more "traditional" and in-person college experience this fall, spring semester activities remain largely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the opportunity for prospective students to tour campus. To help those students get a preview of The Rock before making their final decision on where to attend, SRU's Office of Enrollment Management has partnered with CampusReel to bring the college experience to students' mobile devices.

CampusReel, a company focused on "revolutionizing how students tour colleges online" has helped SRU launch a webpage on the platform where campus influencers talk about their personal experiences at SRU. Topics include athletics, academics, dorms, honors and dining.

"CampusReel is awesome because it allows our students to showcase their authentic SRU experiences that help future students decide whether our University is right for them," said Kayla Hersperger, online design and communication specialist for enrollment management. "In this unique environment thrust upon us by the pandemic, we want to provide our future students every opportunity to connect and engage with SRU and we know video is one of the best ways to do that."

In creating these videos, Hersperger and Samantha Rivet, SRU assistant director of undergraduate admissions, wanted to recruit campus influencers ranging in major, class standing and involvement.

"These influencers were selected to help kick start CampusReel based on the variety of perspectives they would provide to incoming students," said Rivet. "I love being able to watch what my students create and how much enthusiasm they have to share about themselves, their academics, and all the amazing ways they have gotten involved on campus."

Current student influencers that prospective students can watch include:

  • Avery Clukey, a senior health care administration and management and pre-physical therapy dual major from Mechanicsburg.
  • Paxton Fetterman, a senior biology major from Apollo.
  • Mia Graziani, a junior health care administration and management major from Canonsburg.
  • Courtney Page, a senior communication major from New Tripoli.
  • Taron Polk, a graduate business administration major from Pittsburgh.
  • Hailey Robbins, a junior communication studies major from Slippery Rock.
  • Hannah Slope, a junior communications major from Somerset.
  • Alyssa Watts, a senior exercise science major from Downingtown.

Hersperger and Rivet look forward to posting additional videos as the semester continues.

"Being able to showcase the fun and creative ways our students are able to share their SRU experiences with prospective students is both unique and exciting," said Rivet. "There is no better way to explore your future college options than through the eyes of a current student."
