SRU Music Department presenting more than 50 public performances during the 2025 Spring semester
The Slippery Rock University Choir is among the many Music Department groups that will be performing during the 2025 Spring semester.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — There is no shortage of opportunities to experience the culture and sounds of musical performances at Slippery Rock University. There are more than 50 public performances available through ticketed and complimentary admission during the Spring 2025 semester.
"The Music Department has an exciting lineup of performances, and we invite people to immerse themselves in the vibrant talents of our students and the exceptional expertise of our faculty," said Christopher Scott, associate professor of music and department chair. "We have a diverse array of musical genres, including jazz, classical, pop, vocal, instrumental, solo and ensemble performances. No matter your taste, there's a delightful musical experience waiting for you, so come enjoy the harmony and creativity that our talented performers bring to life."
Among the performances will be "Too Many Sopranos," presented by SRU Opera for two shows: 7:30 p.m., Feb. 8, and 2 p.m., Feb. 9, at the Miller Theater in the Performing Arts Center. This two-act, comedic opera composed by Edwin Penhorwood, is about four divas who arrive in heaven to learn there is not enough room for all of them in the "Heavenly Chorus." Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and they can be purchased on at sru.edu/tickets.
Also highlighting the shows this spring will be the SRU Choirs performing with guest composer B.E. Boykin, 7:30 p.m., April 4, at the Swope Music Hall's Recital Hall. Boykin is an assistant professor of music at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and they can be purchased online.
The culminating week of the semester will include the annual Jazz Festival, 7:30 p.m., May 3, in the Miller Theater at the Performing Arts Center. This year's festival will feature guest artist Ayn Inserto, a composer, conductor and assistant chair of harmony and jazz composition at Berklee College of Music. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and they can be purchased online.
