SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University was recognized on four lists for its online programs by the U.S. News & World Report in the publication's 2025 Best Online Programs rankings.
SRU ranked No. 132 for overall Best Online Bachelor's Programs, listed among regionally accredited institutions that offer online degree completion programs. SRU offers eight online bachelor's degree completion programs in accounting, health care administration and management, leadership studies, liberal arts, management, marketing, nursing and philanthropy and nonprofit management.
U.S. News assessed approximately 1,780 online degree programs based on overall academic quality. Only predominantly online degree programs from entry to completion were included.
The U.S. News rankings also evaluate degree-granting online programs for bachelor's and master's degrees across seven disciplines. SRU was also recognized on the lists for Best Online Bachelor's in Business (No. 104), Best Online Master's in Education (No. 163) and Best Online MBA (range of No. 272-355).
The publication assessed online colleges based on the following four categories:
Engagement (35%), referring to the extent to which a degree program promotes participation by enabling students to effectively interact with instructors and classmates, as they would be able to do in an on-campus environment.
Services and Technologies (25%), focusing on how programs incorporate diverse technologies that allow students to complete their coursework at a distance. This category also considers the quality of student support services, career guidance and financial aid resources.
Faculty Credentials and Training (20%), measuring the degree to which online instructors' credentials mirror those of on-campus faculty. This category also measures the effectiveness of the resources used to train instructors to teach distance learners.
Peer Assessment (20%), based on a survey of high-ranking academic officials to help account for intangible factors affecting program quality that are not captured by statistics.
Each program was assessed on the categories outlined above and rankings were calculated using data reported to U.S. News in a statistical survey and a peer reputation survey.
