Col. Joseph Richey, Slippery Rock University professor of military science and head of SRU's Army ROTC program, was promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel in a ceremony, Jan. 17, at the Russell Wright Alumni House. Col. Richey earned the promotion, effective Jan. 1, from the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. At the ceremony Richey was issued his shoulder boards while Col. Matthew Rauscher, commander of the 2nd ROTC Brigade, who oversees ROTC programs across nine states, administered the oath. Col. Richey was commissioned as a U.S. Army officer in 1996 before serving multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and earning several awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star. He arrived at SRU in 2017 and will be leaving the University following the spring 2019 semester.
