SRU Police Mission Statement 

The mission for each member of the slippery rock university police department is to consistently strive to provide excellent services and to seek ways to affirmatively promote, preserve and deliver security, safety, and quality services to students, staff, faculty and visitors to the slippery rock university. 

Our mission is a commitment to quality and the professional law enforcement performance of each member of the department. It is imperative that each member of the department understand, accept, and to be aligned with the responsibilities established by our mission. This mission provides the foundation upon which all operational decisions and organizational directives will be based.

Our mission represents the commitment of the department’s administration to the concepts of quality performance management. It is expected that each member of the department will consistently work in a manner that exudes a high level of professionalism and competence in each of our daily duties, job responsibilities and work tasks that are associated with the fulfillment of our mission. Professionalism and competence in the performance of our duties cannot be minimized and each of our members must strive for excellence and the delivery of high- quality services to the Slippery Rock University Community.

Our performance standards in our professional life must remain lofty and avoid stagnation or mediocrity in the delivery of services. Each member of the Slippery Rock University Police Department is asked to accept and embrace the responsibilities of achieving our mission and publicly acknowledge their support of it.

SRU Police Values Statement 

The Slippery Rock University Police Department exists for the purpose of maintaining social order in the campus setting through prevention, deterrence, and prosecution within the prescribed ethical and constitutional limits; to develop a sense of personal security among the Slippery Rock University Community while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and efficiency. To enhance public confidence by continual development of positive, proactive public relations involving all departmental employees and to encourage the spirit of cooperation between the officers of the Slippery Rock University Police Department and the Slippery Rock University community that includes our students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the University.

The values of the Slippery Rock University Police Department are to advance the delivery of quality police services; to develop, promote and disseminate information on improved practices to the Slippery Rock University Community and to foster a spirit of cooperation and the adherence of all Slippery Rock University Police officers to high professional standards of performance and conduct.

To accomplish any goals, the Slippery Rock University Police Department members are committed to a set of values that guide the work of the department and thus help to contribute to the high quality of life and the educational experience for the students, staff, faculty, and visitors to Slippery Rock University. The members of our department are committed to the values that are reflected in the departmental philosophy and code of ethics, to include: 

• A commitment to fair and impartial enforcement of all laws and ordinances, irrespective of an individual’s race, color, class, creed, sexual preference and identity or political persuasion. 
• A commitment to advancing the principles of respect for individual dignity and human rights.
• A commitment to the highest ideals of honor, truth, and integrity to maintain respect and confidence of the University administration, students, staff, faculty, visitors, and friends of the University. 
• A dedication to innovative and quality performance management, always seeking to improve the department, increase qualitative and quantitative productivity and remain responsive to the needs of the University Community. 
• A commitment to friendly and courteous service by striving to improve communications with the members of our citizenry and at all times seeking to improve the quality and image of public service. 
• A personal responsibility for our actions while on or off duty and a commitment to not allow another behavior to dictate response; nor allow others actions or failings to be an excuse for failure to perform our duties in a responsible, professional, and exemplary manner. 
• A reverence for the value of human life and commitment to conduct ourselves, to maintain public confidence in the profession, the department, and our performance of the public trust.The belief and adherence in these values and the promotion of professional policing will distinguish the Slippery Rock University Police as a truly professional Department.
