Theatre BFA: Acting (Musical Theatre)
Offered by: TheatreSlippery Rock University's BFA in Acting program with a concentration in Musical Theatre provides students with professional training from an accredited institution. Musical Theatre at SRU focuses on the most exciting and groundbreaking musical works from Broadway and Off-Broadway, combining our proven actor training with vocal instruction in contemporary styles such as hard rock, indie rock, pop, jazz, and hip-hop, as well as courses with movement instructors and choreographers drawn from our nationally-ranked Dance Department.

Why major in Acting and Musical Theatre Performance?
Acting majors with concentrations in musical theatre learn from experienced playwrights, directors, and actors. While studying acting, students can audition for any of our five mainstage theatre productions a year-produced in our brand new, state-of-the-art performing arts center, featuring both a 753-seat proscenium stage and a 296-seat flexible black box.
That's not the only chance to perform musical theatre at SRU. Our theatre company has toured six productions to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest international performing arts festival. The SRU Theatre Department's record with the national college theatre festival, KCACTF, is excellent and our students have the opportunity to attend the annual Region II conference where they can compete for national acting awards, audition for new play development experiences, participate in workshops with seasoned professionals, and more.
What Will You Learn?
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting is a conservatory-style, professional career-training program. The Musical Theatre Performance concentration consists of extensive study in voice, acting, dance and movement training. Areas of study and courses include

- Stagecraft and Stage Makeup
- Professional Theatre Practice and Senior Showcase
Musical Theatre students also create bridges to the theatre industry through capstone courses in professional theatre practice, culminating in a senior showcase in a major metropolitan area.
Careers In Musical Theatre
The ever-growing professional musical theatre industry includes career opportunities on Broadway, Off-Broadway, at major theme parks, in dinner theatre, on cruise lines, and with regional, national, and international tours. Alumni have become actors, producers, technicians, managers, and writers for numerous productions and companies. Getting involved with the Musical Theatre Society on campus can enhance student learning outside of the classroom and better prepare them for their future careers.
