Description
A School Social Worker Educational Specialist certificate is issued by the PA Department of Education to an individual who:
- completes an approved school social worker certification preparation program
- holds a master’s degree in social work from an accredited Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) and is licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Occupational Affairs, as a licensed social worker (LSW) or licensed clinical social worker (LCSW)
- maintains their certification and their license to be employed under the staffing assignment as a School Social Worker in a public school

This certificate can be earned simultaneously with the MSW degree and is for those currently in the SRU MSW program or for practicing professionals who have a Master of Social Work degree and want to pursue the School Social Work Certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

- Personal statement: Write an essay 1 1/2 - 2 pages describing yourself and the qualities that will make you effective in school social work; your experiences, career interests and goals related to school social work.
