The psychology department programs provide students with an excellent education in human behavior, with an emphasis on research evidence and methods. Course offerings allow students to specialize for diverse career pathways in non-profit organizations, social services, counseling, criminal justice, business, education, law, medicine, research and psychology. Faculty advisors can help students select the courses based on their career goals.
SRU Psychology students learn a range of skills that make them career ready, which are continuously enhanced through activities inside and outside of the classroom. Students who want all of the opportunities without sacrificing personal attention seek our department. As we work to enhance the personal, academic, and professional growth of all of our students, our graduates further promote the well being of others in their schools, communities, and hospitals.
Students in the Psychology program can work toward either a BS or BA in Psychology, or a Minor in Psychology. In addition, interested and qualified students can choose from several BS programs that allow for early specialization within the field of Psychology including the Honors Concentration in Developmental Psychology, Concentration in Neuroscience, and the accelerated 3+2 Pre-PA (incoming freshman only), Pre-Counseling (3+3), Pre-Student Affairs (3+2), or Psychology with Chatham University (MSCP and MAP) programs. In addition, students can select pre-professional advising areas for future careers in medicine (e.g., pre-med, pre-PA) and law.
