Dr. Jackie Williams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Slippery Rock University where she teaches courses and advises students in the Athletic Training graduate program. She joined the SRU Athletic Training (AT) faculty in July 2007. For nine years she provided healthcare coverage to many of the SRU teams, mainly serving as the athletic trainer for the women's volleyball team. Dr. Williams served as the AT program coordinator for 12 years.
Prior to SRU, Dr. Williams worked at the University of Idaho for 12 years. Originally hired as an assistant athletic trainer, her job description evolved as she became the program director for Idaho’s CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program. She also served as an assistant AT and instructor at Minnesota State University for two years. Dr. Williams earned her doctoral degree in education (higher education emphasis) at the University of Idaho, Master of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (Exercise Science emphasis) at Central Washington University, and Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Service is important to Dr. Williams. Throughout her career, she has been active in the profession serving on committees for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Idaho
Athletic Trainers’ Association, Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society and Board of Certification (BOC). She has actively contributed to the BOC’s Examination Development Committee for several years, participated as test site administrator for the BOC exam, and currently serves as a faculty facilitator for the BOC MCQ project, which is an assessment method assisting credentialed ATs in enhancing their knowledge to improve patient care. She serves as a program consultant for other programs. At SRU, she participates on various committees for the department, college and university including assessment, curriculum, evaluation and internal program reviewer. Dr. Williams’ other areas of interest include ethics education.
