Media Production Spaces
The Strategic Communication & Media programs offer dedicated space for media content production to help students develop their production skills. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in our TV studio, audio & podcast stations, Mac & PC computer labs, as well as access to photo, video, audio, and other equipment for media production courses
Television Studio
The Maltby Television Studio, equipped with contemporary software and equipment, provides a hub for students in the Strategic Communication & Media programs and WSRU-TV to foster hands-on learning and gain professional media production experience. Students involved with WSRU-TV develop skills needed to be successful in any production environment, including multi-cam and single-cam shooting and editing, live broadcasting, and sound design.

The rocket
The Rocket is the award-winning student-run newspaper at Slippery Rock University. Student journalists on staff gain first-hand experience covering and following stories on campus and in the local community. The Rocket is printed five times per semester and publishes digitally weekly. The Rocket has been regionally and nationally recognized by organizations such as the Columbia Scholastic Press, College Media Association, Society for Collegiate Journalists and Pennsylvania News Association.

Radio Station
WSRU-FM 88.1 is a student-owned-and-operated FCC-regulated radio station and podcast studio on campus, which provides hands-on training and experience in radio and audio production, on-air hosting, journalism, sports production, and management, all under the guidance of a faculty advisor. As a traditional college station, WSRU-FM plays a mix of music, news, sports, and talk programs, with content created and hosted by students. The Radio Station features a broadcast and podcast studio with industry-standard equipment, as well as live streaming and remote broadcasting capabilities. WSRU-FM is open to students of any major.

Podcasting Studio
The WSRU-FM Podcast Studio is a media production laboratory that provides students with hands-on experience in recording, editing, and live-streaming podcasts. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and industry-standard software, this collaborative space offers students a chance to learn and understand the nuances of audio production. Whether you want to launch your own podcast or contribute to an existing show, contact WSRU-FM to get started today.

Digital Media Center
The Digital Media Center offers video, photography, sound, and lighting equipment free of charge to students enrolled in official department media production courses. The department offers the technology resources to serve the needs of the students to develop their knowledge and skills in our production courses, as well as our student organizations within the department.
Are you interested in on-campus employment? The Digital Media Center is staffed by work-study students and interested students can contact the supervisor below. You must be a Strategic Communication & Media student and meet certain requirements of the position.

Computer Labs
The Strategic Communication & Media programs offer one dedicated Mac lab, one dedicated PC lab, and a student computer lab featuring both Mac and PCs for students to develop their media production and writing skills. The Mac lab (217) is used mainly for production classes, while the PC lab (221) is used mainly for writing and desktop publishing classes, although both labs can teach both types of classes. The third lab featuring Macintosh and PCs is dedicated as a workspace for students, and no classes are held there.
