About our Program
The Master of Music Therapy at SRU is designed with a strong emphasis on multicultural, social justice, insight-oriented, and resource-oriented approaches. Our program is set-up as a hybrid program allowing our graduate students to continue their clinical work while enhancing their music therapy theory and skills. We accept students via rolling admission throughout the year. For additional information about our music therapy program, contact Dr. Hadley: Susan Hadley, Ph.D., MT-BC (Director of Music Therapy). Certification & Licensure
SRU's Music Therapy Program is approved by the American Music Therapy Association. Students completing this program are eligible to sit for the national board certification exam to obtain the Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) credential. Pennsylvania does not require state licensing; however, some states do require licensing for music therapists. If you are interested in practicing in another state, please contact the state licensing board in that state.

"Beyond providing a deeper understanding of theory, research, and practice, the MMT program at Slippery Rock University has transformed the way I approach clinical work. Its progressive focus on social justice and cultural context are unlike any other graduate program in music therapy. Rather than simply providing exposure to techniques, theories, and models, this program enabled me to critique hegemonic discourse and formulate original ideas in music therapy. Slippery Rock has prepared me for a wide variety of clinical experiences by providing diverse courses that have a comprehensive applicability. This rigorous academic preparation will ultimately benefit the communities I find myself working with throughout my career. Even from a distance, I felt supported and valued as a participant in this program. I had the opportunity to learn alongside a diverse cohort with a shared commitment to social justice, with whom I share deep connections that will last a lifetime. I am eternally grateful for my experience of studying with Dr. Susan Hadley at Slippery Rock University."
