Mathe and DeMaria receive national award from the American College Counseling Association

John Mathe, a Slippery Rock University assistant professor of counseling and development, and Rachel DeMaria, an SRU instructor of counseling and development, received awards at the American College Counseling Association Conference, Feb. 22-25, in Orlando, Florida.

Mathe received the ACCA Counselor of the Year Award for his extraordinary service as a college counselor. To win this award, a committee of college counselors from across the country review peer submissions and select the counselor of the year based on merit and testimonials.

DeMaria received the ACCA’s Emerging Leader Award based on several criteria including graduate status, peer nominations and submission of a personal statement.

The ACCA is a professional organization that supports and enhances the practice of college counseling and promotes ethical and responsible professional practice. Founded in 1991, the organization has more than 1,400 active members.
